FIRE FIGHTING
INTRODUCTION:
Fire fighting, activity directed at limiting the spread of fire and
extinguishing it, particularly as performed by members of organizations (fire
services or fire departments) trained for the purpose.
METHODS OF FIRE FIGHTING:
All fires can be extinguished by cooling, smothering, starving or by interrupting the combustion
process to extinguish the fire. One of the most common methods of extinguishing a fire is
by cooling with water.
FOUR PRINCIPLES OF FIRE FIGHTING:
Over time we have learned fundamental fire
safety principles for preventing fire events and managing their impact (i.e.
the Common Principles: Prevention,
Detection and Communication, Occupant Protection, Containment and Extinguishment) that can be consistently applied internationally.
FIREFIGHTING IN STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT :
A fire fighting type of management indicates a more reactive and corrective approach to every problem that
occurs on the floor. It can even mean ignoring the actual planning and
priorities established because the person in charge has a feeling of urgency to
react and fix the problems that arise.
FIREFIGHTER:
A fire-fighter is a first res-ponder trained in fire fighting, primarily to control
and extinguish fires that threaten life and property, as well as to rescue
persons from confinement or dangerous situations. Male fire-fighters are sometimes referred to as
firemen (and, less commonly, a female fire-fighter as fire-woman).

Top Tips for Fire Safety
Install smoke alarms on every level of your home,
inside bedrooms and outside sleeping
areas. Test smoke alarms every month. If they're not
working, change the batteries. Talk with all family members about a fire escape
plan and practice the plan twice a year.
